Do you take walk-ins?

 

Yes, we welcome walk-ins.  Sometimes it’s easy to fit people in for a therapy session without advance notice.  Other times, it’s not possible.  If you don’t want to be disappointed, please call to reserve an appointment time.  Even if you call the same day, you’ve improved your chances of getting the time and type of therapy you prefer.

How far in advance do I have to call to make my appointment?

It’s helpful to call a couple of days before.  In general, appointment lead times depend on several different factors (e.g., type of therapy, time of day, choice of therapist, time of year, proximity to a holiday). The more flexible you are about your appointment, the less lead time you need.

What should I do to get ready for a massage?

To get the maximum benefit from your session, we suggest you do the following things before your appointment:

  • Wear comfortable clothing that fits loosely and is easy to change.
  • Eat modestly.  Don’t skip a meal, but avoid eating too much too close to your appointment. You don’t want any discomfort if you’re lying on your stomach.  You also want as much blood as possible available to help with the therapy, not just your digestion.
  • Be sure you’re hydrated.  Moderately increase your water intake, minimize your consumption of caffeine-rich drinks, and avoid alcohol altogether.  Hydration helps with toxin release and several other system processes.
  • Spend a minute or two scanning your body and thinking about what you’ve been feeling.  Be prepared to talk to your therapist about where your session should focus.
  • Leave enough time so you don’t have to worry about traffic or construction delays.  We believe everyone’s time is important so we stay on schedule.

How early should I arrive for an appointment?

Arrive at least five minutes before your appointment time.  This way you won’t feel rushed if you need to make a restroom stop or have some water before you go in for your session.  If this is your first visit to our office, you need a few extra minutes to fill out your one-page health history form.

How much time does the therapist actually work on me if I book a 60-minute massage?

Our therapists work a full 60 minutes for each hour massage.  Unlike sessions at spas and some other massage sites, our sessions are scheduled with enough time in between so that time is not taken away from you for clothes changes, room preparation or therapist breaks.  When you book a full hour’s worth of treatment with us, you receive a full hour of hands-on work.

Do I need to tip the therapist?

That’s completely up to you!  Some people routinely give their therapists 10-20% tips.   Some leave no tips. Still others tip only when they feel they’ve had a particularly exceptional session.  Although tips are always greatly appreciated, they are completely optional.  And, whether you give a tip or decline to do so, you’ll always receive outstanding service at A Beneficial Massage.

What should I do after a treatment?

To get the maximum benefit from your treatment, follow the “Healthy Homework” suggestions your therapist offers you.  Common suggestions that apply to everyone are to:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking a little extra water over the next day or two.
  • Try to prolong your relaxation by resting, avoiding high-stress activities, and getting a little more sleep than usual.  (Remember: your body uses sleep time as recovery and special maintenance time!)
  • Call our office with any questions or concerns.

Is bodywork good for children?

Yes!  Craniosacral Therapy helps children with Autism, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, other learning disabilities, colic, and birth trauma.  And, like therapeutic massage, it’s a terrific way to help children cope with “growing pains”, menstrual cramps, sports injuries, muscle tension, and some spinal issues.   Bodywork also helps children develop a greater understanding of and appreciation for their own anatomy.

Do you accept insurance?

No, we do not.  However, we will provide you with a receipt that you can use to file for reimbursement. We’ll also provide a copy of your treatment notes, if necessary. Currently, only two states, Florida and Washington, have legislation and insurance plans that offer consumers good bodywork coverage.  Arizona coverage is typically limited to “auto pay” and worker’s compensation cases.

Where are you located?

We’re at the southwest corner of 99th Avenue and Union Hills in a one-story strip shopping center about 5 minutes west of the 101.  Our office is in a building that also houses an acupuncturist, an oxygen store, a beauty salon, and an insurance agent. You’ll see the sign above our door that says “MASSAGE THERAPY” in big black letters.
